Wing Tsun Concepts - Understanding The Simplicity And Effectiveness Of Wing Tsun Kung Fu

“The Effectiveness Of This Chinese Kung Fu System Relies On Concepts Or Principles Rather Than Applying Brute Strength Of Techniques”

The Wing Tsun System Is Self-Defense In It's Most Uncompromising Form

As a ‘system’, Wing Tsun differs from traditional martial art ‘styles’ in that it does not aim to prescribe a unique, programmed solution (technique) to every conceivable combat situation.

Instead, the Wing Tsun system provides effective protection against physical attack with just a few basic movements.

To do this, Wing Tsun follows simple principles and fundamentals that govern every movement and which may be applied in every combat situation.

To a certain extent, these principles may even be applied to other martial arts to great effect.

Wing Tsun Is Complete Martial Arts And Self-Defense System

Wing Tsun is a complete system of self-defense in that it applies the principles of self-defense to all ranges of combat. Wing Tsun is also complete because it uses the whole body in defense. The ranges of combat represent the distances at which unarmed combat can take place.

Let's take a look at the core Wing Tsun Concepts that make it so easy to learn for self-defense:

Wing Tsun Kung Fu Fundamentals:

  • Simultaneous Defense and Counter Attack
  • Economy of Motion in every technique
  • CenterLine Theory

The skills of WT focus on defending the body's centerline where all the vital organs lie. The overall simplicity of WT is evident by the number of practical techniques involved in learning the system.

As a matter of fact in Wing Tsun we believe that "Less Is Really More!"

The Four Fighting Principles of Wing Tsun:

These fighting principles are very crucial to learn and apply into real life situations. When Wing Tsun student fully understands what those fighting principles really mean, he or she will be able to defend himself/herself in any day-to-day life situations.

Here they are as I teach them to my students:

  • If the way is clear, go forward.
  • If you encounter resistance, do not withdraw, but stick with what comes.
  • If you encounter superior force, do not fight but give way.
  • If your opponent retreats, follow through.(See 1st Principle)

Wing Tsun's Four Ways Of Dealing With Force:

Also dealing with force - your own strength and opponent force will determine the winner or the loser in real self-defense situation.

In Wing Tsun class, we try to master these all the time. It's never ending process.

  • Free Yourself From Your Own Force
  • Free Yourself From Your Opponent's Force
  • Use Your Opponent's Force To Your Advantage
  • Add Your Own Force To The Force Of Your Opponent

Through intense training WT students learn to harness the energy of the attack. Instead of opposing force with force, we teach you how to complete your opponent's movement by accepting his flow of energy as he aims it, thus defeating him by utilizing his own force.

Five Combat Distances:

Wing Tsun student learn to deal with any type of attacks. Hey, on the street you have no bell or referee to save you from arm-bars, choke holds or elbows to the head. So you better learn everything.

Therefore Wing Tsun students learn using:

  • Their Feet (Kicks)
  • Their Hands (Punches)
  • Their Elbows And Knees
  • Grappling (Holding & Throwing)
  • Ground Fighting (Using the same WT concepts - no need to study grappling arts like Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Judo)

Wing Tsun Universal Solution:

Universal solution is very active motion forward with kicks and punches, trying to take away the opponents space he needs to complete his attack.

Universal Solution is a only concept that can deal with over 95% street attacks. Therefore students does not need to know thousands defensive techniques to fend of thousands possible attacks.

And trust me - on the street you do not have the time to recall what techniques you have learnt at your martial arts school.

You have to react fast, aggressively and spontaneously at the same time.

And only Universal Solution will teach you that!

REMEBER: The Best Self Defense Method Is The One That Can Fend Of As Many Possible Attacks With Least Amount Of Movements.

Now you can learn to put all these Wing Tsun Concepts into real martial arts practise - but hurry, our classes are limited!
