Q. What is Wing Tsun?
A. Wing Tsun or WT is a highly effective form of weaponless self-defense which was developed in China more than 300 years ago. WT utilizes a person's innate reflexes combined with the principles of force and motion to redirect an attacker's energy against himself.
Q. Who should take Wing Tsun?
A. Anyone who wants to learn practical self-defense in a safe and friendly environment, and have some fun too.
Q. I am a woman. Is WT for me?
A. Sure. In fact, WT was developed by a woman. The WingTzun system is designed so that a smaller opponent can successfully defend him/herself against a larger, more stronger attacker.
Q. Will I learn how to defend against other martial arts styles?
A. Yes! By Student Grade 6, the WT student has learned to defend against the majority of popular martial art styles as well as other potential attackers.
Q. Is WT safe?
A. Absolutely. Safety is our highest priority.
Q. Is it easy to learn? Will I spend countless hours trying to master difficult and unnatural movements?
A. WT has a very short learning curve because all the moves are simple, natural, organic moves that any person with any type of body can do without difficulty.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. It all depends on how many classes you want to take. Also if you want to study in a group classes or if you want to invest in personal Wing Tsun trainer to guide you through the system on one-to-one basis. Generally, you can study WT for less than the cost of the average gym membership, and we offer several flexible payment options.
Q. There are so many martial art styles out there. How do I find out if WT is right for me?
A. You can read what other students have to say, come in for a FREE introductory course or just to watch the class. Our qualified instructors will be glad to demonstrate the concepts of WT for you.
Q. Do I need to be athletic or have a certain build?
A. No. Wing Tsun was developed to allow people of any build or size to protect themselves against any size attacker. Applying Wing Tsun techniques doesn't require strength, fitness or above-average flexibility.
Q. Will I get a good workout?
A. Yes, WingTzun training provides a well-rounded physical and mental workout.
Q. How long are the classes?
A.Each Wing Tsun Kung Fu class is (on average) an hour-and-a-half long.
Q. Do I need special clothing or equipment?
A. No. Since we train for realistic self-defense, all you need is a T-shirt, shorts or sweat pants, and sneakers.
Q. Is there a grading system?
A. Yes. WT grading is categorized by 12 Student Grades and 8 higher levels.
Q. How long does it take to advance through each Student Grade?
A. Like any discipline, it depends on practice and natural aptitude; but typically it takes about 3 months to prepare for the next Student Grade.
Q. Are there forms in Wing Tsun?
A. WT has four weaponless forms: Siu-Nim-Tao (Little Idea), Chum-Kiu (Bridge-Seeking), Biu-Tze (Thrusting Fingers), and Muk-Yan Chong Fa (Wooden Dummy Techiniques), and two weapons forms.
Q. Are there weapons in Wing Tsun?
A. WT incorporates long pole and double knives training, but only at the Practition Grade. Therefore, Escrima is offered in EBMAS schools.
